Both my old, totaled jetta and the new tdi started easily below zeroF
(-4F). In fact, I usually like to take it out early in the season just
to see how well it starts when the first cold (about 20F or below) so I
know if I have glow plug problems. No additives, but in unheated garage.
I know if I leave it out there is more chance for rough starting.

I did have some water/jelling problems when I left the old jetta for two
weeks at outside airport parking, but even then it started rough and
eventually smoothed out.
