[Vwdiesel] 1.5 or 1.6?

'84 is a 1.6, unless someone has changed it.

Should be
12 point head bolts which must be replaced-they are torque to yield
style.  I left the exhaust manifold in place on my Caddy so I
wouldn't have to work with the funky exhaust clamps.

Took me less than an hour to pull the head with hand tools last
time I was wrenching on mine.  You'll want to re-time everything
when you get it back together.

Probably a good time to do the front (of motor) motormount and
timing belt.  While you're at it, that water pump is sort of close,
too.
