OK diesel fans I have built a pickup out of a bright red 1991 4-door Jetta, removing the trunk and adding a small wooden bed a la Model A type pickup of my youth (or someone's youth) The bed is about 58" long from the very front, in under the rear window, and there is a tail gate that flops down to add another 20" or so. At the back end of the bed I have a metal rack the same height as the two permanent roof racks, so carrying 16' lumber is easy. In place of the rear seat I have wooden shelves so tools can be put inside for warm and dry. This is mainly out of sheer frustration that I cannot get a good little truck that gets good mileage and will still get up my driveway in wintertime. Th truck gets about 35-40 MPG, less than any other diesel I have ever had but twice as good as any alternative so... If anyone wants pix let me know via e-mail and I'll send'em out. Diesel pickups will again rule!
