Does anyone know what kind of fuel economy to expect out of a 1979 VW Dasher
diesel.
I have a friend that just took a job where he is going to be driving about
1000 miles a week. He owns a gas Westy right now and doesn't want to put
that kind of mileage on it. So he wants to buy a second car for use for his
new job. He would like it to be German and would like it to be inexpensive.
I suggested he buy an older VW diesel. Cheap, reliable and good mileage.
So I went and looked for what was for sale in our area. All I could find was
one VW diesel. It sounds ok to me and would willingly go down and look at
it. I assume that a 1979 Dasher used the 1.5L NA diesel engine. So my
thoughts were that the Dasher had a lot more weight than a Rabbit and
therefore this configuration may not get as good fuel economy as a diesel
Rabbit.

If anyone in the Pacific Northwest (I am in Portland OR) have any knowledge
of VW diesels for sale that would meet my friends needs please let me know
that as well. We would be willing to travel to pick up a worthy vehicle.
Thanks
Duncan
