[Vwdiesel] Jetta won't start....New Starter needed.

Thanks for all the responses!  I tried wiring the starter direct to the
battery and all I got were sparks. Looks like it's time for a new
starter! The guy at the VW dealership (O'conner's in Augusta) said
be careful when taking out as the engine will drop slightly if you
don't put a jack under it. Is this true? Sounds weird to me! Anything
else I should know about when changing the starter? It looks pretty
simple to do. I thought the VW dealer said $295 for a new one. I
nearly fainted! I must have misunderstood him as I went to a local
auto parts place and found one for $99 with core.
