[Vwdiesel] Rabbits 1980-1984 (keeping the heads cool)

The TDs put out more heat at full tilt than the NAs,
for obvious reasons: more fuel is being burnt. I
rarely drive in the mountains, but on the couple times
I did it, the temp guage climbs right up to near the
"Red" zone, and the cooling fan kicks in on "LOW"
about three quarters of the way up. I think it then
kicks in on "High" at some point. I belive the
thermostat opens anywhere over mid-point on the guage.
Point is, you can add a manual override switch when
turned on, turns the cooling fan on "High" to start
extracting more heat from the coolant sooner, and
faster. Turn it on when beginning to climb those
grades. Glimbing a grade = more power needed and
slower speeds w/ less air-flow thru the radiator. I
never added one, though because of rare mountain use.
