For the '85 Jetta D or TD, an 87 deg. C. thermostat is
what is called for. I'd imagine its the same for an
'84 Rabbit D. The big "sensor" screwed into the upper
radiator hose flange on the head is indeed the A/C
cut-out for when the engine overheats.
