[Vwdiesel] Step by step instructions for Mike Smith. ( checking 1.6L Turbo. )

OK, let me just ask this, firstly:
How many screws are there on the Injector pump?
I see one that must surely be for idle.......it holds right against the
linkage.
I also see one at the back, above the injector lines, but facing to the
drivers side of car, I have been turning this. Was told it was the "MAX
FUEL" screw. All it does is make it idle higher. Nothing else.
Is there another one? (ie: "power"?)

Also, what is a "return fuel banjo" and will I have to remove mine to get at
any of these screws?

Thanks,

Mike

Step one take out the big plug in transmission -- not just the small one.
Step two Use breakerbar and socket to turn engine over ---go normal
rotation -so you do not loosen hardware. Inspect flywheel carefully for
signs of a TDC mark. (and let me know one way or other.) Step tree
remove one injector. (I do # 1 all the time) Put old oil dipstick down so
it touches piston. move piston to top.If you have a mark on flywheel it must
line up (you do not need a mark to time engine) Let us know what you find.
Step four : remove valvecover. Then with piston top both valves closed and
pump timing mark exactly lined up you are timed. No need for fancy
tools at this point dial indicator comes later.
Fuelling screw ---be careful and keep track. Got the feeling you did not
turn the right screw. It has a bigger locknut than the power and idle
speed screws. If you are lucky yours has a seal wire still on. I shall
guide you -- just did mine so my procedures are fresh. ---- now I
got to worruy about tickets. -----NO smoke. loars of power. I only run
about 7 psi boost. Hagar.
PS: I remove return fuel banjos to get to screw. Be absolutely CLEAN.
