I promise to do a good job of helping anyone to get started. In my cas=
e The ongoing condition of the engines are important. Two test can be=
compared say 1991 and 2001 and see how much faster oil gets black in re=
lation to mileage or hours run. Do not be confused by fancy language lik=
e chromatography (you can correct spelling) . If you get glycol or w=
ater in lube it will show. If you get metal filings it will show. I finall=
y got the fancy digital camera up from Seattle so if there are enough conve=
rts ,the pictures will be posted. You are welcome to see my collection.=
The paper comes in 8" X 8" sheets. I cut them to 4" X 8" for the binders. =
Usually get 3 or four test on each ---use only one side. Note that not=
all engines dirty the oil black. Really good clean ones may stay clean fo=
r a long time. I have a lister here that never got black in many years. VW=
's expect some shade of black shortly after oil change --say 10 miles.
Blottertest ( I discovered by chance) works like the dickens to detect mi=
crobes in fuel.
Read after about a day or so ---if warm (like now) a few hours will do.
