For the small washers use a very "soft" flame ----propane or alcohol. Ke=
ep washer completely in flame till you get the most incredible copper colo=
r ---then without hesitation drop in cold water. Then install as soon as yo=
u can. No it is not like steel ---steel would go hard . To anneal steel =
--very slow cooling is the way. Some metals harden at room temperature s=
o those are usually kept in freezer till use (Rivets etc.) Most metals =
work harden --if hammered or drawn or bent. In this case the " Timing plug"=
it is a good idea to anneal every time. The banjo fittings are not as cri=
tical -- after doing about 100 without leaks I do not worry no more.(anneal=
ing them too is better) Good old shine does the job every time. When I s=
aw the "spray" story I had a distributor sitting by the keybord , and no wa=
y could I cross-thread that plug, so that is not likely the problem. As =
to the 3 cornered fasteners piece of cake. Use 6 sided socket and nailpo=
lish a filler piece on one flat ---small nut or roller will do. When I take=
injection pumps apart a roller from a spicer universal is used. Rememb=
er copper red hot but shielded in flame, till drop. Hagar.
