[Vwdiesel] 85 wiring / thermoswitch & rad fan.

greetings all-

would anyone who has an 85 golf check a couple of things for me PLEASE!i am
working on tracking down why my radiator fan doesn;t work correcty. my bentley
shows wiring colors that are different than what i have. somewhere i read that
there were some problems with some of the wiring diagrams, but can not remember
which ones.

PO(S) wired a toggle switch that seems to be spliced in to the A/C controls in
the dash that activates the fan. i think it comes on at high speed. it does not
seem to be wired as a supplementary switch. fan only runs when this is swtiched
on.

i checked the fan, i get both low and high speed.

1. termo switch on radiator. i have:

BR/WH that is hot, not R/B as shown.
R/B that goes to the high speed fan relay instead of BR/WH
GY/WH is same

looking at the connector, the order of wiring is as follows-

        >< boss
BR/WH  GY/WH     R/B


2. Radiator Fan plug:
i have BR/Y instead of BR/R coming off of the high speed relay, pin #87.
other are same.

3. temp indicator on dash-
about where in the range is the needle during normal operating conditions?
where in range is the needle in when the fan comes on low speed?

my needle slowly creeps to about over the led and stay there until i turn the
fan on. then it fluctuates from about 7 o'clock to the led again.

any and all help is greatly appreciated.
