I have to say that I don't like them. Too many of them end up shining
directly into my eyes. It's bad enough at night but at least then you
can usually tell if they have their high beams on or not. With DRL's
running around you can't tell if it's highs, just a high vehicle, poor
alignment or some of those DRL's that are always in your eyes.
Under certain driving conditions they make a car more difficult to
judge the distance to or even LESS obvious.
If we want to deem many drivers as too stupid as to being capable of
turning on their own lights then have a light sensor. That way they come
on, back and front, in tunnels, when driving into heavy cloud cover,
dense fog and so forth. OR use an amber light for the DRL. It doesn't
hurt your eyes as much, cuts through minor fog better, tends to stand
out better during most conditions, etc.
Then there's the issue of having a drive that points your lights in the
neighbors bedroom window when you come home from a late shift or
show up at a star party without the capability of turning your lights off.
There ARE reasons to dislike them. :)
