[Vwdiesel] Jetta E Code/DRL Debates

When I was with the Maintenance Council (Trucking
Industy) of ATA we studied DRLs in the early 80s.
Originally required by law in Canada, now an option in
the states, still not mandatory, from what I
understand. A true DRL system uses the headlight
bulbs, but AT REDUCED VOLTAGE, like 75%. If equipped,
the action of releasing the parking brake, or shifting
the selector from "Park" to any gear activates the
DRLs with the key "ON". The reduced voltage is key
here: DRL use had nearly no effect on shortening
headlight bulb life.
