[Vwdiesel] No joy with another used vacuum pump

Got another vacuum pump and it acts like the old one.  It binds up
and scores the top plate when you rev the engine.  It's a vane type.
I had a thought of putting a thin piece of teflon between the top
plate and where the vane body would rub.  Any thoughts?  Would the
old style (diaphram) vacuum pump fit the 1.6l na's?
