Sounds like the "clogged intake" syndrome - intake (and intercooler?)
clog from residue fed back into it from the EGR valve.  Engine can't
breath, so won't accelerate with any power, but runs ok at idle.

I don't have a TDI, so now you know as much as I...

SO,
I changed my fuel filter on my tdi because my car suddenly lost power.
It was
not holding spped going up highway hills, and when I pushed the
accelerator
down more than halfway, there was no response. The new filter helped for
about
1 day, but symptoms have returned. I will try to pull some fuel from
tank and
see if the is algae there or so gunk. Is there another filter near the
tank?
Any other causes for this problem anyone can think of?
