    During the re-opening of relations with China, back in the Nixon
administration, one of our nitwit reporters interviewed the incomparably
wily
Zhou Enlai, the Chinese Foreign Minister.  The reporter asked him whether
the French Revolution had succeeded.  His answer was vintage Daoist:  "It's
too soon to tell."  The reporter was baffled at the inscrutability of the
answer.
    A unilateral invasion of Iraq will be America's undoing, and that ain't
too soon to tell.  We can't remember what happened last week, and we just
picked a fight with people who carry a grudge for a thousand years.
    Meanwhile, another old Daoist is chuckling to himself at his good
fortune in our folly.  His day is about to dawn as the sun sets on ours.
