As soon as battery (new) is installed. Two little dimples are drilled in ce=
nter of batteryposts and filled with Vaseline.
Then a stalled starter test is done and recorded in back of Bentley. With th=
e rabbit in high gear and brakes on.Do a voltage drawdown test. Make sure b=
attery is FULLY charged.NO voltage can not be taken on terminal clamps. MUS=
T be on post itself.
WARNING : Use starter just long enough to get a maximum drawdown (minimum r=
eading)--known as a Voltage drop.
WHY ??? 3 years later do it again ---and bingo there is your answer. Due t=
o the small gauge cabling used on Rabbits -- a good battery (diesel) will n=
ot be damaged. (resistance).
Now if you are reluctant to do a stalled starter test ---just do the readin=
g during a normal start. In that case Hagar would turn on as much load as po=
ssible. You could use a jumpercable and start a SUV.
Let it be known as "Hagars LOAD test" of the battery. have fun =
Hagar.
PS: it works. and later we can discuss the interpretation af drawdown. But=
do any time you have starting troubles.
