[Vwdiesel] Brake calipers -- The war goes on,

He's just back online.  Moles (ground squirrels) ate my phone line.  Little
buggers must have woke up hungry, and ate (hacked into?) my underground
line.  Wonder if they have modems...

Mild steel.  The brake screws that is.  Your crank was cast or forged steel.
Prolly forged if it was a real PITA to drill.  More an issue of grain size
and hardness than what it's made of.  It could be heat treated to a fairly
hard state, then journals ground to size with water cooled stones. (big
ones)

If you are going to rebuild the other calipers, just use liberal amounts of
heat.  Heat the screw until red, give it a sharp thwack with a stout hammer,
and allow to cool, or do the wax treatment to it, then allow to cool in air.
It will come out then.  Then proceed to hone and install the rebuild kit.

Phone is still poor, crackles and pops, wonder if this will get through
properly...
