Right. Good point. I put a VERY light coat of grease.
I mean that tube of grease will more than last my
lifetime. Same goes for the shift linkage, I believe,
although I do apply wheel bearing grease where the
shift rod goes through that orange bushing (the one
near the front frame member), and I do coat that golf
ball-like shift ball. Is that a no-no?

I remember in the old days they said NOT to grease
carburettor linkage because it would attract abrasive
grit.
