[Vwdiesel] Timing belt on a 1.9NA: Solved

I love my 1.9 na, don't be afraid to turn up your fuel pump a bit if you
really want it to clatter along. I also have nothing but kudos for ken
at importvision and the overland setup.

(Earlier, I posted to the list about the shop that is putting a 1.9NA
into
my Vanagon. The shop was claiming that the timing belt does not
fit...here
is the resolution......)

I had the shop call Ed at Overland parts (after being referred to them
by
ImportVision, whom I ordered the motor from). After they talked with
Ed, Turns out they (the shop) had the right belts, pully, everything.
Turns out, the timing belt fits tighter on the 1.9NA than the 1.6NA.
They
just didn't try hard enough. Grrrrrrr. They have had the Vanagon for a
MONTH, and counting!!!!!

So, if anyone lives in the Corvallis/Albany Oregon area, contact me
privately, and I can tell you where NOT to take you car/van/whatever. I
should have just done the engine swap myself and saved money AND time.

Now, I am worried that this shop will screw up the engine. I *will* post
to the list when/if I have a running '83 vanagon with a brand new 1.9NA.

On the other hand, the 1.9NA kit from Overland/Importvision is just
perfect. I strongly recommend them if you want to go 1.9NA. Ken from
Importvision is great, and Ed from Overland has probably the most
technical expertise in the US on the 1.9NA engine.

OK, I think I will start a holy war here.... :-) Does the 1.9NA engine
last longer than the 1.9TD or TDI? "Conventional Wisdom" always sez that
NA engines last longer than turbos. Is this true? (Disclaimer: I own a
Mercedes 300D Turbo, so I am not NA biased).

Does anyone know where I can get a Turbo for my electric car? Ahahahha.
