[Vwdiesel] mech head valves

greetings all-

i got through checking the valves in my 1.6NA mechanical head. most were ok,
except for #1 cyl. those clerances were REALLY low- 0.012 on the exhaust, and
0.005 on the intake. i am going to be on the thinnest valve shims to get the
proper clearances. i am getting a bit concerned. should i be considering a valve
job or newer head?

for the ones with mechanical heads, how fast do find the valve settling rate to
be? how often do you find you have change out your shims to thinner ones?
