  Of course YOU already know this but some newbies may not.  Be sure
you do the intermediate bearings!  The other thing is to be sure your shop
really knows what they're doing when boring a VW diesel.  They REALLY
balk at boring an engine to only .001 clearance!  Most won't do it unless
you demand it.
  I know what you mean about finding the proper engine paint.  I've been
really tempted to get a gallon of the proper color mixed up and sell pints
of it but I can't find a good sample of the original color!  The ones of mine
that HAVEN'T been painted have NO original paint left on them!  :(
