Fw: [Vwdiesel] Oil recommendations?

Engine oil: Most cost-effective is prob'ly any of the well-known diesel oils
in the proper weight. I'm using Rotella 15w40 dino in the summer and Delvac
synth 5w40 in the winter; changing every 4mos. In my location (Toronto,
Ontario, Canada) I could prob'ly use the 15w40 all year round, but I bought
a few gallon jugs of the Delvac, so may as well use it up. Just got back
from a fishing trip with a buddy truckdriver who has a million km on his
5yr-old Kenworth... no mechanical probs to date, and compression etc. still
shows like-new specs. He changes every 20K km, altho he claims he has NEVER
done a cold weather start on the rig -- always stored indoors when shut off,
or keep it running if indoor storage is not available. BTW, his rig could
pass for an off-the-showroom-floor model. My '91 TD has about 250K km, has
had no mechanical probs, and still runs like new.

Tranny fluid: Changed over to the Redline stuff, and find that winter
shifting is much improved. The old 1st==>2nd cold weather "graunch" has
gone away, and downshift to first is again like-new.

Just my $0.02Cdn (which seems to be rapidly approaching the $US values...)
:-)
