[Vwdiesel] Oil-tight diesel - does it exist?

Having just returned from the underside of my '85 Jetta D, I'm somewhat
discouraged by the abundance of oil everywhere. No definite signs that my
newly installed VC is leaking, but it appears I may be losing oil at the rear
of the head gasket, and at the oil pan gasket, and possibly one of the front
seals. After replacing the VC, I pressure washed the engine as best I
could, and the visible parts look fairly good, but the entire back of the
engine is caked in oil & crud except for dry patch in the middle of the block
around the frost plugs. Since I have new drips in my garage, I can only
assume that I am still leaking from somewhere, but it's hard to tell for
certain with all that crud. How does one clean the back side of the engine?

Or should I just give up now? After 13 years of driving my last Jetta, I
never did get it to stop leaking oil, after replacing pretty much every gasket
and seal over the years. I really want to start putting good oil in this car,
but can't afford to have it leak out on me. (plus I'd like to have a leak free
diesel for once!) Is there a secret to this, or should I just use cheaper oil
and live with it?
