  I haven't looked but there's most likely a timing inspection hole, like on
the
A! tranny.  It sounds just like when something drops in there and gets
bounced around.  If it were in the crankcase the oil would tend to dampen
it unless it's big, in which case it'd be clashing all the time.  A messed
up A/C clutch can do something similar as well.  I've heard a turbo do
something similar but it was more of a brrrzzzzzzpp or a deep chirp.
