[Vwdiesel] what is it ?

That is a Volvo(aka VW) 2.4L diesel engine.

The engine code should be in generally the same place as it is on the 4
cyl models.

My understanding of this engine is that parts are hard to find for the
original stuff(from Volvo or VW) but I also understand that many of the
4 cyl parts are interchangeable. Pistons, rods, bearings, water pumps,
oil pumps, lifters, valve shims... pretty much everything besides the
obvious 6 cyl stuff(Block, crank, cam, etc)

I've also heard that these engines have a tendency to blow head gaskets
because of the long aluminum head. Also, oil starvation in cyls #1 and 2
due to the longer oil gallery to them. Go to 'Swedish Bricks' and look
at their diesel info. for possible engine endurance issues.

Personally, I think you would be better served by a MB 5cyl TD.
