the firewall that provides the pedal feel and return
for the lower 3rd of the clutch pedal travel. That
seems to be working OK. But, the clutch pedal won't
spring up past that 3rd way point.

The additional return mechanisms that I can see are:
1) the clutch return spring at the end of the
transmission.
2) the spring tension of the self-adjusting cable
mechanism

My theories are the following:
a) Item 1 above looks OK. The spring is still on the
pushrod lever arm and provides tension. This may not
be the problem.
b) because I cannot compress the
cable/mechanism/spring deal-io, there's an issue with
the clutch cable and it needs to be replaced (does
this help the pedal return to the High position? ...
is it the main contributor?)
c) when I went the remove the clutch cable, I used a
scissors jack on the Clutch Lever Arm to raise it up
high enough to get the clip off of the end of the
cable. Maybe I bent that arm or something else?

The pedal will return to the high position if I pull
it up. I don't see where there is a second spring on
the pedal assembly which would provide this return
movement.

This comes as the last step after reassembling
everything twice (as mentioned before), and then not
having the engine start because the timing belt had
skipped when I turned the motor over by hand (from the
camshaft nut...don't do this!!). Had to put a new
timing belt on it anyway, so once that was done last
night with the timing realigned, it fired right up.

Please help me finish so I can get this one back on
the road :)
