Yup, sure does.
It depends on what head you have of course (1.5l vs 1.6l, hydraulic lifters vs
mechanical, turbo vs non) but I've seen rebuilts for $400 at vwdieselparts.com.
My friend bought 1 for $200 from ebay, only to find out 1 of the aforementioned
characteristics was incorrect. Make sure you get the right one!
