Hi Dave,
Propane will give you better performance and economy. 9 gallons of diesel
and one gallon of propane will travel farther than 10 gallons of diesel. I
would recommend an adjustable metering valve in addition to the solenoid.
About 20 years ago, I built a propane controller for my Audi diesel that
would control the propane from 0% to 25% of the total fuel (and even higher
percentages at cruise). I think there are some commercially available
controllers.
