If you buy the propane at a bulk fuel place, its usually priced competitively with gasoline.  Usually have to buy at least 10 gallons to get the bulk price.  I used to run my old Landcruiser on 100% LPG and I'd always get my BBQ tank filled when I filled
the truck, maybe $5-6 to fill it.
