A friend told me of a stalling problem he had with his Rabbit - his
problem was a clogged filter inside the fuel tank. He saw bubbles in
the fuel feed line (from tank to main filter), and that's how he
diagnosed it.
His solution was to 'clean' the tank filter by blowing pressure air
back to the tank through the fuel feed line (after removing the fuel
tank cap, of course...).

The wisdom of putting a fuel filter inside the fuel tank escapes me.
Fuel is continuously cycled through the main filter (under the hood), so
what's the point?

How fast does fuel flow to & from the fuel tank at cruising speed?
