[Vwdiesel] Changing the 5 speed trans fluid

Chris,

Is this your '91 or '00? On the A2s, the speedo cable is held on with a 12mm bolt
through a steel plate with a rubber gasket beneath. Carefully clean out around it
before removing, as crud builds up here, and will fall in the hole otherwise. Very
simple to remove and replace the cable - have a clean rag to wrap the end in to keep
it clean while filling the trans. I've done this numerous times on A2s, and the only
catches are the drain plug can be very tight, and the amount to fill must be measured
(2 liters if I recall), as it's not a complete, fill to lip sort of thing.
I have the cheaper Amsoil GL4 stuff in my '85 right now, and it's ok, although not as
nice as Redline.
Not sure on the procedure for A4 models though, but should be similar.
