Germany was the enemy --- but how the hell can you be mad at them after you
get exposed to Volks Wagens ? ---- And the big square box with doors on the side,
BIG doors on four wheels and a 36HP engine ? I do not even know what they were called
but man talk about useful ----In Denmark is was a "Rye Bread" a pumpernickel .No wonder
all those US hippies liked them. All the hippies I met in those days had brains oozing out all over the place.
Are those the ones you are talking about installing a Deutz diesel in ? --if yes WOW.
I had a little bit to do with air-cooled Deutz diesels in Bobcats and Forklifts. And all
I can say is that they were very well designed. Heavy duty long time service. Sort of
a light duty Lister air-cooled. They would be heavy and expensive --but who knows ?
it may work.
Did I ever drive a RYE BREAD ? yes a company one --from east Ontario to West Ontario
Canada and back. On the Trans Canada highway ----- full throttle all the time. It never
complained. ---- I got to the point where I actually liked the sound of the damned thing.
Does it have a noisy fan or something ?.------ALL I remember was the fun.
Last time I saw a Rye bread was the day I lifted the rear end of the ground with a Bensen
Gyro Glider. I was climbing too steep.Bob Bambrick of Galiano Island BC owned the Rye
Bread. Galiano Freight Service. What memories. Funny how VW and flying gets inter-twined.
Airhead is one fine Aircraft engine --say I . That flying all took place at Flood airport near
Hope BC. about 1967.
OH talking about flying , I am one of the originals who started the Airshow at Abbottsford
BC. --about 1962. (small part). I was part of EAA chapter 85.
Hagar.. the has been. yiks.
