[Vwdiesel] Injection pump for beginners ---( the LDA -thingy )

Thanks to Mark Shepherd and Loren --- the drive to town with the
guide pin hanging loose -- was a lot of fun.

Pin is longer than the diameter of the bore for the cone shaft. It will come
out and hit the far wall. Remember pressure in pump is about 100 psi.

Pin is around 200 thou inch in diameter so if it could fall out completely
a lot of fuel would be lost. I drove 26 km and did not see the fuel
gauge go down. But there was fuel lost.

To drive without guts in LDA put in a piece of tygon hose or the like to
keep pin in contact with pin seal.

The guide pin is pushed against the cone by springs in pump . A nifty way
is needed to hold pin retracted , while slipping cone shaft by. On mine it was a
piece of cake. Seal will hold pin for 2 or 3 seconds --that was long enough to slip in the shaft.

There is a timing mark on top of diagphragm so you can get things back as were.

My LDA was rinsed out with fuel --so now I got to decide if some oil is needed in there.

.The big adjustment nut inside bottom has very fine thread and I forgot to note
if it was RHT.

More thingy talk some other time.

Hagar.

PS: No way to tell cone was off center on shaft by looking at the drawing I got.
Many thanks to Loren.
