[Vwdiesel] Off topic - electronic ignition testing (fwd)

This is a follow up to share the "break-through".  Apparently, the 
electronic ignition module works OK, although some of the symptoms
may have suggested otherwise.

The problem appears to be that for some reason (dirt in an orifice,
perhaps) the carb is running lean.  So it will start with a shot
of brake cleaner.  Then run, but only with the choke on.  

This whole thing would be moot, if my trimmer were compression ignition.
You see then, it would be happy and smoke free, running at a leaner 
mixture.  

Thanks to those who forwarded suggestions, all of which were excellent.

ps: Well, problem is not completely solved, but pulling the carb apart
should yield the culprit.
