[Vwdiesel] UPDATE - Glowplug and Injector issues - TDI

Had some fun today working on the TDI. 95F and nothing in the sky but the
sun. No garage or carport to work in.

Replaced the Puralator air filter with a MANN, replaced the Bosch fuel
filter with a Bosch, and installed a "rebuilt" MAF from Impex (new sensor,
used housing).

Was going to clean the injectors with Diesel Purge I bought off of Ebay a
while back. Apparently DP has a shelf life. Because this stuff was dark in
color and had virtually no odor. I've used DP in the past and it was
virtually clear and the smell would knock you on your a$$. Also the DP I
have now is in a white bottle. The DP I've used in the past was in a silver
bottle.

So I decided to experiment with a bottle of Amsoil Diesel treatment. It's
concentrated, 100% chemicals, no diesel in it. Unlike DP which is 65%
diesel / 35% chemicals. Ran the car on the Amsoil. It must not taste very
good because she threw a fit. She ran very rough and soon started belching
white/gray smoke badly.

Then I went to my local AutoZone and picked up a bottle of Power Service.
Had to get the white bottle (anti-gel + cetane boost). 32oz for $4.99 +
tax. Got home and filled the new filter with the PS. Installed the fuel
lines and began cranking. After cranking off and on for a while I finally
looked to see if there was any fuel in the line. There wasn't. It was
bone dry. I ended up filling the fuel line itself with PS and put some more
PS in the filter. To keep the battery from draining I cranked up the Jetta
and slapped on the booster cables. There must have still been a big pocket
of air in the pump because it still took several seconds of cranking before
she finally started.

And when she finally started, she roared! Perfect idle and revs to the moon
without hesitation. Took her for a spin and it was like I had a new car
again. Only problem is the CEL is still on. Maybe it'll eventually clear
itself out. Also I "think" I still faintly hear the knocking that shouldn't
be there. But it could just be my imagination.

BTW - when I removed the fuel filter and drained it using the water
separator valve, water came out. Probably 1 or 2 oz, maybe more. For a
while I stopped using diesel treatment. I probably filled up 3 or 4 times
in a row without using treatment simply because I kept forgetting to put it
in the trunk. And that's when I started hearing the loud knocking. I must
have gotten a bad tank of fuel somewhere. First time this has happened to
me since I've owned the car, 2 years / 5 months and 63,000 miles.
