[Vwdiesel] Broken Exhaust Studs

my dad has an 83 diesel vanagon, and i've pulled the
motor a few times and whenever i do much work on the
bottom side of the engine i find it SO much easier to
have the exhaust and heat shields out of the way. so
i've taken it off and put it on somewhere from 15-20
times or so. his bolts are also a little rusty, but
nothing really out of the ordinary. i've never had any
problems with them. could be just luck, but i don't
think i have THAT much! :)

this vanagon has something like 160k on it now, and
still all original exhaust parts, including the studs
and nuts. so i don't think that vibration or heat
expansion is really that much of a factor. course, i
could be wrong, but so far it's worked for me.

good luck!
erik
