  I wouldn't say that quite so confidently. ;-)  I arc welded up a cast 
bellhousing on a Toyota once.  I DON'T do such things but when it's 
a good friend what else CAN you do?  It cracked right back EVERY 
time until I pre heated it with a big honkin' tip on the torch, welded it, 
then kept that tip going, faning it slowly further and further away and 
turning it down a little, over about 10 minutes.  Didn't crack that time!
