Justin : IMHO your question was legitimate . I have done a lot of going to bigger
studs and bolts in my life.

The snake in the woodpile here is that the VW diesel is a highly stressed light duty HIGH speed diesel.

There is next to NO extra meat anywhere. I go with performance ---if it works
that is what counts. I would go for stronger and longer bolts. There is lots of thread in
block that is not used. I use aircraft "High Strength" bolts in critical places.

I am sitting here right now with a head that popped off my 5.7 GM V8 ----shitty steel
say I. Head off cylinder head bolt. Got my aircraft bolts from the dumpster at
Boeings in Seattle. They sure have a lot of strong bolts down there.

This is a subject where the Aviators here become very important ---The steel used
in aircraft's is way better than what is used in the car industry. GM kept selling
the lowest cost head-bolts for a long time----then they smartened up and sold good
bolts ----about 12 dollars a piece. ------go figure.-- by then it was too late.

If we compare the weakest bolt to the strongest in the world ? ---I have.(1964)
The difference is hard to believe.

The new stretch bolt for VW's ? ---yes very good steel.

And where was the weakest bolt I tested made ? China (Taiwan) -------I will be happy
to tell more.
The strongest ? I do not remember but I think USA.

I did run in to some incredible strong bolts on UK Landrovers ---but make ? no way of knowing.

Probably UK.

Fixing the oilpump pad ? If you have more time than money ? sure why not?-.

Sometimes I do things like that for the experience ----- and may I say I am
getting more experienced daily.

Hell it is fun so it does not work ? so what?.

Hagar.
