not sure what exactly is leaking
That's the first step, clean, rinse, blow it off and find out exactly
what is leaking. Probably a return hose but not necessarily.
> but if it's not a hose, how do you fix a leaking pump?
Depends on what's leaking. Seals and o-rings can be replaced.
You generally have to remove the pump to get at them.

Again, depends on what's leaking. If it's the front seal, which usually
leaks air in rather than fuel out the bushing is usually worn and needs
shop repair. A seal kit is available for about $25 and you can replace
what's leaking. Timing advance lever isn't bad but the one between the
cast iron and aluminum part is a bit nasty as I understand. Fuel out
the throttle shaft would need a new bushing. Might be available as a
press in part.

Sounds like a small hose leak really. Maybe at the injectors instead
of the pump?
