[Vwdiesel] Pyrometer thermocouple placement

That depends on the EGT gauge.  I have seen some that specify AFTER 
turbo and the red danger Zone is in a different place than on the 
BEFORE turbo EGTs.  I have mine in both my TDI and in my Caddy TD in 
the bend of the downpipe just as the exhaust exits the the turbo.  I 
consulted my local diesel guru and he said that in cars, the path from 
exhaust through turbo and into downpipe is so short that you don't get 
much temperature drop.  I just make sure not to run either car above 
1000 degrees F for very long.  Are you intending on intercooling your 
Van?  You will find that it has a very positive effect on EGTs.  Hayden

Vans (5), Rabbits (3), Karmen Ghia (1), Jettas (5), Passat (1), Dasher 
(1), New Beetle (1), and Rabbit Pickups (3) most now gone but not 
forgotten.
