API EC rating ? . Energy Conserving . IMHO not good
for OLD Rabbits. The oil will be too skinny in summer. No such
rating was given to higher viscosity oils. Dino or half Dino or syn is not
considered in the test. Performance is.
FAQ : How big is the saving ?

A : 0.5 % to 1.4 % dependent on viscosity.Higher in a VW diesel if you
go from 50 SAE to 10 SAE---- In an OLD Rabbit ? makes no sense.

API label EC is undergoing change and I do not know if they are finalized.

I have NO problems with the people at the refinery ---but I sure as hell have a of
problems with the spin-doctors ---- some claims are outlandish.

Extended intervals for oil change in OLD Rabbits IMHO is a bad idea. Let me
explain.
Hedgasket leaks (self explanatory) Oil dilution with diesel is common. Soot
loading is high------ Get rid of the shit floating around and around in your lube
by draining. Less than 5 dollars of lube for a 1984 Rabbit 1.6L Turbo ? why take a chance?
Moisture builds up in oil if you do a lot of small hops like me.Right now it is raining
here finally ----whew scary ---a fire in the sticks here and all those Rabbit parts would be
boat ballast. Can oil be dried by a Hillbilly ? yes indeed "Silica Gel." amazing
what that stuff will do in oil. I learned about that from some UK people.

The only problem I have with syn oils is that they are not cost effective in some
applications. I posted the price here some time ago ---- 24 July 2003 syn 10 dollars per
liter at Wal-Mart Dino 1.48 per liter. I usually get 20 liter buckets and my notes say
that a bucket difference of 123.82. ( my notes look like syn was not available in buckets.)
So that would be the price of 20 one liter cans.(176.10 Canadian )

Val Christian and I had some interesting discussions about lubes. And OLD wisdom has
it that you should not mix brands --mixing grades is ok. . Oil-tests done in New York
on Taxi Cabs showed that ALL the oils were performing well. Look up
the test ---fun reading. No clear winner. Impressive testing.

I got involved in getting some oil for a Jet Ranger chopper about 1970 or so -----was
told that only Shell could make it good enough for the gearbox. Shell had the only
crude of high quality. In North America.

Hagar.

PS: yes I sniveled a ride from the coast to the interior.
