I have talked to Val Christian long enough to know that anything regardless of rating
that he put in a 1.5L NA VW diesel ---will work just fine.
In the USA the crappy oils are so much better than what we had in 1940 to 1945
over there --that I would loose no sleep whatever. ( NO re refined crap now)
Anything he used I will use today in my 1.5L and 1.6L na. And make it work.
Remember Esso AD-100 or AD-80 is not diesel rated --will it work ? like crazy.
Just use a blotter test.
I am one who tells newbies to use good diesel rated lube and diesel Glycol.
But as you get more experienced ---- wow lots of room to move. I have an engine
here with hundreds of thousands of miles (Equivalent) NO oilchange in 20 years
gasser run mostly on Aviation oils --at times on diesel lube. Why no oilchange ?
I wanted to find out how abrasive soot was ---etc. It does have a good filter. She keeps
on going and going. "Annabelle" ---but she does need a new muffler.
Hagar.
PS: cylinder rust is a problem if she sits too long without running.
What sets the diesel lubes apart mostly ? additives. Not the base stock.
I am mostly an OLD Rabbit type but I advice anyone with a new VW to follow VW
instructions to the letter.
A lot of small engines have no oil filter and they last and last and last --WHY ? because
they get rid of shit by oil-changes.Well anyway that is one reason --design is probably
more important.
As to Jake ? he better go for the best.
And I do cut a lot of filters open ----and they can be checked by weight as to how
much crap they picked up.
