Fw: [Vwdiesel] starter question

I'm not familiar with the Fox starter setup, but if it requires a bushing in the bellhousing 
to support the shaft, like the Vanagon and Jetta starters, and this bushing is worn, it can 
cause the starter to fail to turn. The new starter I just installed in my Vanagon came with 
a new bushing, and a warning that it must be installed to avoid a failure. The starter 
shaft is quite sloppy without this bushing and can short out if not properly supported. 
You mention the starter was ok when out of the car, which is contrary to the above, so I 
may be way off base...
