Almost every e-mail reader I've used has an option to "wrap" incoming
messages to a line length you can easily work with.  Find the
"Preferences" menu option in the mail reading program and under the Mail
or Messages section, check for "Message Wrapping" or something similar. 
Look for an option to "Wrap incoming plain text messages to window
width".  Then, no matter how long the incoming lines of text are, they
will wrap as needed to fit inside your mail reading window.  

The idea behind this is that the Enter key is used to denote
paragraphs.  Sentences within paragraphs are denoted by the punctuation
and space between them.
