YAY!!
Good going Bart. Very happy to hear the story turning in your favour.
I've been watching it.
===============

Well, I take my own VW project car to the garage tomorrow.(unless we get too
much snow here tonight)
  For those that don't remember ; it's a 1986 Golf Diesel 1.6NA (bought for
a mere $100)
404,000 kms on it, and rebuilt @ 200k or so.
Loads of bondo...to no doubt rival the likes of Bunny Bondo (a la Hagar)

We'll see what it needs to pass inspection...there comes a point where
spending too much more $$ on it won't be worth while.
I'll have to see what my garage says it'll all need to pass.
For sure...brake line, part of a tailpipe, reverse light switch, big
battery, tires mounted...maybe a balljoint or two.
Rocker panels/floor junction rotted from tail to head.....possibly 2 struts.

             **********P O L L ***************
How much would be "too much" ($$) to pour into this to make it roadworthy?

My other vehicle is a 94 Pathfinder 3.0L V6.....19-20MPG in the winter.
>From experience with my ex-88 Jetta 1.6L Turbo
and from reading this board, I think I would be able to expect 40-45MPG with
the Golf.

I've done 99% of the electrical & bodywork to date, but I have limited time,
experience and resources to continue.
The garage is my bro-in-laws.....usually $35/hr and 15% off parts, so not
too awful bad.

Mike in NB.........gas is expensive here !
