That is the gneral idea, yes.  You have power at the glow plug bus, ground wherever, LED or light in between.  For an LED, make
sure to get a 12V LED (has an internal ballast resistor) or if using a discrete LED, about 500-750 ohm ressitor in series to
limit the current to ~20mA or so.
