[Vwdiesel] My vacuum pump isn't vaccing

But first let me nominate the "NUTMEG"  tale   (saga)   for story of 2004.  tales
like that makes this site stay ALIVE.

Brakes ---- I got my first car when I was a NATO military nutcase   in the USA in 1953.

My commanding officer gave me a lenghtly sermon on the fact that GOOD brakes
were more important than a GOOD engine. As he said ---if you cant stop dont go.

So I got the one with the good engine.

Doyts  brakes :    First requirement is to have a rudimentary understanding of
the VW Vacuum booster power brakes.   So read  ALL that you can find in Bentley.

Yes I have done the WORKS on old Rabbits. All with diagphragm pumps. and
found that the pump was apple pie.  BUT  the adjustment of pedal ROD was tricky.

For vacuum pump test a finger test will do ---to test the booster servo I use a shop vacuum
and my computer attachment.    Inside Booster is a big rubber diagphragm   and a coil spring.

One side is sealed at the master cylinder with an O ring.   ah hell read the Bentley
I use a shop vac for testing.     To replace a Servo  is apple pie.    .

The most common problem is 1. holes in rubber diagphragm on pump ----failure of
the Servo is possible but not common.    Adjustments of rod and Filter change
is  possible and at times Master cylinder may be at fault.   

Doyt since you say no VACUUM   lets consentrate on pump. If it is OK it will
hold on to your finger pretty good.

The OLD   Rabbit vacuum pumps are identical in design to american V8 engine
fuel pumps. .So there is no problem for gasser nerds.

Having said how simple it all is ?  ---BULLSHIT ---VW brakes can be a real PITA.
to bleed and adjust ---but it can be done by a DIY.

I use long sticks of wood to bleed brakes ---piece of Apple pie.

Doyt if you have troubles identifying type of pump ?   I will gladly mail you
a picture of each.    My Bentley covers 1984 but there is nothing about
the Vane type pumps.    Bunny Bondo   1984  Rabbit ?   it has a Vane type pump.

PS :    Really having to stomp on pedal ?  yeah I was there.   But I was a Soccer player
for many years so I stopped in time. Shit I thought something was going to
