I did some web searches on this, and found the Ford PS diesel uses a
similar system, comparing the banks of plugs (using a shunt) and throwing
a fault if the difference is greater than 8.5A (minimum 32A per bank is
rated spec). The system also states that it does not do the check until glow
plugs have been on for 30 seconds, stating it takes time to stabilize the
resistance/current. I found mention of the Calif. models using a more
advanced GP controller which identifies each plug with a code, but could
not find details on how this is done.
