We had an old International TD6 crawler in the 1940's that started on gas,
then switched to diesel. I saw it with the head off once, and it seemed to
have a separate valve for the gas inlet from the carburetor. We would start
it on gas, and one of the guys who drove it would roll a cigaret, smoke it,
then switch to diesel and go to work. Sort of a human glow plug timer.
